Freediving was just a dream until 2001 when I discovered
it was possible to learn in the UK. Since starting my training at the
SETT tank, I have studied with teachers all over the world and taken monofin speciality courses with the Russian Monofin coaches Igor Soutchkov
and Alexey Grankine.
I competed between 2003 and 2006, coming 3rd
in the 2003 UK Championships, 3rd in the 2006 Swiss
Championships and 2nd in the 2004 Kalymnos
International Championships despite being the only female in the
competition!
I became an instructor in 2003 and have spent the last
seven years teaching courses
After seven years writing films, I am now the author of a
book about freediving, entitled 'One Breath, a reflection on Freediving',
it is a history and a collection of stories about the sport, accompanied
by stunning photographs taken by Fred Buyle
You dont have to have the lung capacity of a whale and the physique of a greek god to freedive, everybody can. For some its about depth, but for others its about the relaxation that apnea brings. Your heartbeat slows, your mind clears and you enter into a almost dream like state where all your movements are in slow motion and in tune with the water. Your body undergoes subtle physiological changes ( we all spend 9 months in liquid and are quite suited to it ) and very quickly adapts to apnea. Everybody will find something different in freediving. At the PSA we make sure that you a have a safe, relaxed, environment to do this.

A great picture taken from about 10-15m in the SETT tank in Gosport. Its a big warm tank that the navy use to train submariners.
A million pints....
I think this one is a pic of a bubble ring....but I could be wrong!
This is the mermaid at the bottom of the SETT tank. She has some fine features..
